Going back to my junior year in high school, physically I wasn’t big enough and I wasn’t fast enough for college scouts to even glance in my direction… But I had dreams of playing professional football ever since I was 7 years old...

I was one of those guys with a great work ethic in the weight room. I had great numbers for my max on squats, deadlifts, and bench press. (Because I thought big numbers would help me in football. Who wouldn’t think that!?)

But on the field, I lacked speed.

And playing safety and running back at only 5’10, speed is an absolute must to get any attention from a college scout, as I’m sure you know.

And on top of that, I was at a tiny school with only 88 kids in the graduating class…

Maybe you’re in a similar situation? I’ve talked to young athletes all over the country and sometimes I see hopelessness in their eyes… where they think because of their circumstance that they don’t have a chance to play college football, let alone professional.

I know what it feels like because I’ve been in those exact shoes… being short and slower than the top recruits around were just a few of the obstacles in my way.

And I absolutely feared a life of mediocrity and my heart still burned with a desire to play professional football.

And so I made a choice… a choice to not let circumstances outside of my control dictate my outcome.

I decided I’m going to focus on the thing that I can control and do everything in my power to force college scouts to see who I am. And the thing I could control was my training...

So after the football season in my junior year, I took self-inventory and figured out why I lacked speed. I realized having these great numbers in my squat, deadlift, and bench press was actually hurting my flexibility and causing short strides in my running form. I was this little ball of muscle that had strength, but I lacked the speed necessary to be an outstanding player.

Now my new training program began. It consisted of hours and hours of stretching every day, on top of my weight lifting workouts.

Also, I incorporated training principles from Olympic sprinters, Olympic lifters, and other explosive athletes.

And if you watch these athletes, you’ll notice they’re extremely flexible. And what’s even crazier, is how explosive they are in these fully lengthened positions.

Like an Olympic lifter can lift more than 400lbs overhead, after his butt is practically touching the floor! Imagine how explosive he is in just a basic athletic stance like in football.

Or how about an Olympic sprinter. Watch their strides in slow motion and you’ll see they’re basically in the front splits over and over, yet they’re able to turn their legs at mind-blowing speeds.

So after the football season in my junior year, I took self-inventory and figured out why I lacked speed. And here’s what it did for me in just 1 year. It led me to an exceptional senior football season where we even won state in our division.

On top of that, my forty yard dash time went from a 4.72 to a 4.50… And I even gained 10 pounds of muscle...

Now I was able to get looks from college scouts. And I ended up getting a full-ride scholarship to Central Washington University. 

And this was the result of barely even a year of this new training style.

So now in college, I kicked my training up a notch. Because if I still wanted to make it to the pros, I’d have to really stand out over the next 4 years… after all, I was only at a division 2 school, playing linebacker with a height of 5’10...

But sure enough, my new style of training paid off!

I’m now officially living my dream as a professional football player. On top of that, this training has led me to become one of the highest paid players in the CFL. I've been awarded defensive MVP 2x, CFL All star 5x, and have won 2 Grey Cup championships.

And I owe it all to dedicating myself to this style of training.
